A lot of homeowners want to upgrade their bathrooms but they’re worried about the cost. A bathroom remodeling project could easily cost you at least $10,000 depending on the size of your bathroom and the kinds of upgrades you want. The good news is you don’t have to start your bathroom renovation project right away.

Here are some ideas that will let you still update your bathroom without remodeling it, and you can do this even with a low budget.

Clean tiles and regrout

You don’t need to replace the tiles unless they’re broken or have many cracks. If your bathroom tiles are still in good shape, you can simply clean them, re-seal them, and regrout your bathroom floor. Just make sure that before you do these things, your tiles are thoroughly cleaned so that mildew and bacteria will be removed.

Upgrade bathroom furnishings and accessories

You can improve the look of your bathroom by investing a few hundred dollars in furnishings. All you have to do is replace certain items like your shower curtain and liner, rugs and floor mats, and toilet seat. You can buy a new soap holder, and maybe change your bathroom mirror to a more modern one.

When shopping for a shower curtain and liner, remember to buy a colored shower curtain and a clear liner. For rugs and floor mats, choose colors that complement your bathroom theme and overall color scheme. The toilet seat should match the color of your toilet as well.

Update plumbing fixtures

If your budget allows it, you can also update your plumbing fixtures such as your faucet and showerhead.

Choose water-saving fixtures because they offer great savings in the long run. Not only that, there are also modern plumbing fixtures that can significantly enhance the look of your bathroom due to their design.

Update lighting fixtures

You can replace incandescent lights with energy-efficient LED lights. These lights only consume about a tenth of the electricity that old lights use up. Not only that, these lights come in different brightness levels and colors which can make your bathroom look warm and inviting. LED lighting costs more than incandescent lights but because of their ability to conserve energy, you will get your ROI really fast.

Upgrade bathroom wall color

If the last time you had your bathroom painted was 10 years ago, then you have an outdated wall color that’s probably painted in dark hues. Moreover, you’re likely to see lots of chipped paint and some areas might not even have paint anymore. Today’s paint color trends are lighter, brighter shades. By changing your wall color, you can really make your bathroom look more appealing and spacious for a relatively low cost.

Additional Upgrades

These additional upgrades are optional, and there’s no need to do them now if you don’t have the budget. However, if you can spare some extra cash, you can also choose to replace your toilet or your sink.

You may even replace your tub with something more modern like a free standing tub. If not, you can simply reglaze your old one to make it look new again. But as mentioned, if you don’t have the budget to remodel your bathroom now, you can always just set this aside until when you can afford to do so.

The objective of a bathroom improvement is to simply improve the look of your bathroom. You can do this by cleaning your tiles, as well as replacing or updating some fixtures and accessories which won’t cost you more than a few hundred dollars.

Additionally, it also helps to keep things organized and neat. Remove all the items you don’t really need in your bathroom such as old towels and a broken toilet paper holder. When you have done all these things, you will have a bathroom that looks and feels brand new.
